Our Aim
The Western Sydney Melanoma Support Group (WSMSG), is a community based, voluntary group for men and women who have been diagnosed with Melanoma (any stage), their families and careers. We aim to provide accurate information on the subject of Melanoma, provide support and friendship.
A little about how it all started
After being diagnosed in March 2016 with Advanced Stage 4 Terminal cancer I found myself, and still do , struggling with the uncertainty of life. Family and friends sympathize with me but not having been in that situation could not understand how I felt. So I tried to find a support group in the Penrith area with no success and the closest being in North Sydney which was too far for me to get to. I contacted the Melanoma Institute Australia where I spoke with Jay Allen, a great fella and a champion advocate for people with Melanoma, see his Facebook page Melanoma Man. Jay put me in touch with Kyle who also has Melanoma. After a phone conversation and a get together it was decided that we would start the Western Sydney Melanoma Support Group.
Since then things have been moving along with a venue being provided by the Penrith Baptist Church for our monthly meetings, Facebook page being setup 2 of our local newspapers, the Penrith Press and Western Weekender both running articles on the support group to help get the word out that there is a place where people with Melanoma can come and meet with others in a similar situation. As our slogan says " you're not on your own ", so why be on your own, come along to our monthly meeting and be encouraged and encourage some else.
